The Guanajuato State Directorate General of Transport uses simulators to run the practical exams required to issue driver's licenses — an anti-corruption measure.
Since 2016, driving simulators have been used to administer the practical exams. To date, more than 120,000 people have been trained on high-risk scenarios with the simulators, which keep applicants safe and allow for more complete evaluations of whether they have the skills needed to drive.
The equipment also removes the risk of unevaluated drivers taking to city streets, while giving examiners better parameters to determine whether an applicant can properly handle a vehicle. The simulators recreate a wide range of conditions — cobblestone areas, highway and city driving, day or night — along with risk factors like awareness of the effects of alcohol, cell phone use, and speeding.
This standardized, automated exam makes it possible to:
- Evaluate driving skills and aptitude, along with knowledge of traffic regulations.
- Measure reaction times to high-risk situations, obstacles, mechanical failures, and different weather conditions.
- Generate an automatic pass/fail result as a PDF.
- Analyze results through a tamper-proof student and instructor management system with biometric (fingerprint) sign-in.
