GRUPO LODEMO INVESTS IN SAFETY AND SAVINGS WITH A TRUCK DRIVING SIMULATOR FOR ITS YUCARRO DIVISION

With more than 40 years in business, Grupo Lodemo set out to become one of the region's most important and profitable business groups — and driver training and professionalization are central to getting there.

With a track record of more than 40 years, Grupo Lodemo set out to become one of the region's most important and profitable business groups, powered by innovative ideas — and achieving those results holistically meant investing in driver training and professionalization.

As part of that commitment, Grupo Lodemo added an APEX simulator to power the curriculum of the Driver School at its logistics division, Transportes Yucarro.

With this simulator we are working on three fronts: improving fuel economy, promoting road safety and streamlining the training of incoming personnel.

Within our school, this simulator will support training plans both for the more than 300 drivers already on our roster and for those joining us.

One standout opportunity is training the new generations of drivers the company is recruiting as they step into the job.

The simulator is equipped with a three-degree-of-freedom motion platform that replicates the G-forces of acceleration, braking and cornering, so the operator experiences the simulated accident and understands the consequences of decisions made on the road. It comprises the simulation cab, an instructor station and an observer station where trainee performance can be reviewed.

The simulator can reproduce the vehicle configurations Grupo Lodemo operates, so drivers can train on any of them — including International trucks with ISX and X15 engines.

It can create 240 combinations of route scenarios and operating conditions, recreating real accidents so drivers learn how they could have been avoided and are prepared for any eventuality.

On the road safety front, one of the advantages of using the simulator correctly is that companies can lower their accident rate, which translates into lower operating costs, insurance premiums and maintenance costs over the medium term.

DETAILED SIMULATION REPORTS

The simulator includes cloud-based software with advanced reporting and telemetry that builds a comparison matrix and ranks drivers by operator type. Evaluations can be accessed in real time from headquarters, and biometric (fingerprint) sign-in prevents identity fraud by trainees and instructors.

Finally, this important project owes much to the Human Capital department of Grupo Lodemo: it was championed by Manuel Serrano Aguiñaga, Human Capital Manager, and executed by Pavel Hernández Camacho, Head of Organizational Development, whose area will be responsible for driver training.
