Previously, the central offices of the state's transportation authority were the only place to process both new licenses and renewals, but under the current administration five more offices handling both procedures have been added, located at Plazas Outlet, Zapotlanejo, Plaza Universidad in Zapopan, El Salto and, starting today, Plaza Guadalajara.
State Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez joined Guadalajara Mayor Pablo Lemus Navarro on Tuesday for the reopening of Plaza Guadalajara in the heart of the city's downtown, where the state Ministry of Transportation opened an office for driver's licenses and other Setran services, alongside new INE modules and offices of Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) for passport processing, plus a revenue office for municipal and state tax payments.
It will operate in step with the downtown revitalization project, which includes pedestrianizing main avenues along Paseo Alcalde, opening cultural sites such as the Puente de las Damas and repopulating the city. Now, with the reopening of this space, visitor traffic and sales at Plaza Guadalajara will grow steadily thanks to its direct connection to the Guadalajara Centro station on Line 3 of Mi Tren.
Enrique Alfaro RamírezGovernor of the State of JaliscoWhen the current administration took office, licenses were processed only at the offices in Tlaquepaque, Plaza las Torres, Plaza Centro Sur, Las Águilas and the central offices at the Glorieta de Tránsito. Since then, offices have been added at Plazas Outlet, Zapotlanejo, the Centro Integral de Servicios in Zapopan, Plaza Universidad, El Salto and now Plaza Guadalajara.
With more offices across the Guadalajara metropolitan area and municipalities in the state's interior, license issuance is also on the rise.
In 2018, the last year of the previous administration, 422,377 licenses were issued, while from January through September of 2023 the count already stands at 426,726.
That means an average of 35,198 licenses per month in 2018, versus 47,414 per month so far in 2023.
This was truly a team effort, and I want to thank all the merchants of the historic downtown and everyone who shared the broader vision. The municipal office we opened at Plaza Guadalajara serves three purposes — the first is renewing municipal licenses, meaning a merchant from downtown, from Providencia, from Oblatos or from anywhere else can come to this office to renew their municipal license.
