NAYARIT MODERNIZES DRIVER'S LICENSE TESTING WITH AN APEX SIMULATOR

The state Ministry of Mobility of Nayarit has put the state's first driving simulator into service, allowing drivers to earn their license through a practical and theoretical exam.

If someone comes in for the first time, they will be asked to take the driving test on the simulator. This is a very important milestone because until now the only exam the Ministry of Mobility applied was a written test — often taken without studying, sometimes even with answers being passed around — and we had no real certainty that the people about to drive a motor vehicle on our streets actually knew how to drive. That is also part of what causes the accidents we are suffering today.

The equipment also includes simulations for public transit operators, police officers and other trades and professions that must demonstrate proficient driving. Notably, even with this new technology the cost of a chauffeur's license will not increase — it will remain 1,032 pesos.

The simulator gives us the guarantee that anyone obtaining a license has taken both a practical and a theoretical exam, and has passed with an approving grade before earning their driver's license.

The test takes roughly 5 to 7 minutes — some can be shorter depending on the terrain. But if applicants do not pass, and this is very important to know, they get a second chance; on the third failure they are suspended for 6 months and cannot obtain a driver's license.
